Academic mobility within Kazakh model of credit transfer type ECTS

To provide academic mobility of students and recognition of educational programs (all levels and forms of higher education and post-graduate) in the European educational space it is necessary to recalculate Kazakhstan credits to the credits of ECTS.

Academic credit as a part of ECTS is a measure of complexity of the discipline, as in the classroom, so during independent work. One ECTS credit is equal to 25-30 academic hours. ECTS estimates the total complexity of academic work in the school year as 60 credits (per semester a student gains 30 creditsand20 credits per trimester) The school year is 30 weeks and 6 weeks is given on the exams (final test).

In European countries the duration of training for the Bachelor degree is three or four years and requires to obtain 180-240 credit units respectively.

Recalculation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the ECTS credits and back is based on the conversion factors. Recalculation of ECTS credits in the Republic of Kazakhstan is carried out by dividing the ECTS credits for the conversion factor that depends on population density of 1 ECTS credit in each subject and the level of educational programs:

1) BA - ranging from 1.5 to 1.8;

2) Master`sprofile - in the range from 2 to 2.4, for research and educational - ranging from 2.5 to 3;

3) for a doctorate - in the range of 3.5 to 4.2.

Creditsin the form of entire units.

The complexity of course projects (works) is included in the overall complexity of the discipline.

Recalculation of credits of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the ECTS credits is done by multiplying the credit of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the conversion factor specified in paragraph 74 depending on population density of 1 credit for each discipline and level of educational programsin the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ECTS grading scale consists of five positive ratings (from «A» to «E»), «FX» can be corrected, and «F» doesn`tgive credits.

The gradingsystem of knowledge in the Republic of Kazakhstan is based on the score-rating alphabetic system of educational achievements of students, including ten positive ratings (from «A» to «D»), which provides the assignment of credits and a satisfactory grade of «F» without giving credit.

Transferring of ECTS grades intopoint-rating lettersystem for evaluating educational achievements of students and back is achieved according to the following tables.
