Abai KazNPU, founded in 1928, is the country`s leading higher education institution, training teachers and academics for almost all sectors of the economy. High quality education, a worthy place among the best universities of the republic and the first place in the ranking of pedagogical universities allow us to set and solve the most important tasks of preparing highly qualified specialists who are able to find their place in the labor market. Many of them will determine Kazakhstan`s future development strategy and represent it on the world stage.

The main task is to train new-format, competitive, progressively thinking, creative and innovative teachers for themselves and society. One of the recognised methods to assess the quality of educational services provided by HEIs is institutional and specialised (program) accreditation and international relations.
Abai University has an effective internal quality assurance system for education. And for external quality assurance, the university co-operates closely with various foreign and national accreditation bodies.

The university has international certificates of institutional and specialised accreditation of educational programs (EPs) with a period of 5 years. To date, 94 EPs, which is more than 55% of the total number of EPs, have passed international specialised accreditation, namely in the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR)-35 EPs, Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA)-31 EPs, Kazakhstan Association of Modern (Elite) Education (KazSEE)-26 EPs and Independent Kazakhstan Centre for Accreditation (IKCA) 12 EPs.

In the general rating of TOP-20 universities of Kazakhstan, conducted by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating, for 2023, our university takes the honourable 4th place, and among pedagogical universities 1st place. In the rating of universities of RK by groups of educational programs won 54 prizes, including: 1st place - 34 EPs, 2nd place - 19 EPs and 3rd place - 1 EP. The TOP-50 faculty members of the RK includes 6 teachers of the university: Buribaev E.A., Khamzina J.A., Berdyshev A.S., Kosov V.N., Zharmaganbetova A.K. and Tileuberdi E.

Abai KazNPU annually improves its position among the leading universities of the world. According to the results of QS World University Rankings-2022, it ranks #551-560. (2021 - #601-650, 2020 - #561-570). Among the higher education institutions in the country, it ranks fifth. In the international QS EECA-2022 (Emerging Europe & Central Asia) ranking the university was ranked 70th out of 450 institutions of higher education in the region in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Abai University is ranked in the top 1000 in the global RankPro Worldwide Professional University Rankings with 917th position out of 2425 institutions of higher learning registered in the world. According to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 Abai University for the first time entered the top hundred universities of the world by subject ranking - 62nd place in Education and Training in Social Sciences and Management category with 71.6 points. This score is the best among both Kazakhstani and Central Asian universities represented in this category. In addition, the university for the first time entered the industry rating «Arts and Humanities», taking 297th place with a total score of 64.5. In this category, the specialty «Linguistics» ranks 201-250 in the world (among higher education institutions of Kazakhstan 3rd place).

In 2022, Abai KazNPU for the first time took part in the authoritative international ranking QS Stars Rating System and was awarded a high score of «4 stars» out of five possible, with 752 points out of 1000.

According to the IQAA rating in the national ranking of the best pedagogical universities of the country  Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University took first place with a final score of 98.71%. According to the results in the IQAA ranking, the official website of the university took an honorable fifth place among 101 higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan, in the category of pedagogical universities of the country - first place. In 2018, the website of Abai KazNPU ranked among the top ten university websites (in 2018 - 9th place, in 2016 - 26th, in 2014 - 20th, in 2013 - 25th place).

According to the Development Strategy for 2022-2025, eight main directions and strategic indicators are defined, in order to achieve which it is supposed to increase the proportion of full-time teaching staff involved in scientific research to 33%, the number of teaching staff by publications in international journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus to 20%, the share of master and doctoral studies to 15%, the number of joint international research to 7, the number of foreign students to 5%, the number of foreign faculty to 10, the number of double-degree educational programs to 10.

Today, international cooperation is becoming increasingly important. Abai KazNPU is a collective member of three prestigious international organisations. It has concluded 139 agreements with universities in 29 countries, including 12 agreements with universities included in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (The Academic Ranking of World Universities). Among them are the following partner universities: QS WUR Top 500: University of California in Los Angeles - 40; University of Tsukuba - 285; National Research University Higher School of Economics - 305; University of Milan - 316; RUDN - 317; Tianjin Polytechnic University - 334; Kazan Federal University - 347; Urals Federal University named after Ural Federal University with the highest ranking in the world (1997). One of the objectives of a modern higher education institution is to develop internationalization in all fields of activities: educational, scientific and extracurricular. Within the framework of this programme, one of the components of which is the involvement of foreign students, foreign nationals and stateless persons are accepted in the order established by the RK legislation on a contractual basis, as well as through international treaties ratified in RK.

Motivation for the teaching staff and university staff are the results of competitions and scholarships in various international educational organisations. Mobility of teaching staff and university staff is implemented through short-term seminars, educational modules, international programs Tempus, Erasmus+, the grant «Best Teacher», etc.

The number of faculty and staff, who went abroad on business trips (participation in seminars, forums, etc.) in 2021-2022 academic year was 27 people, including: giving lectures - 2, research internships - 5, participation in conferences, symposia and research projects - 20. In 2021-2022 academic year, 14 teachers of the University had an internship program «Bolashak».

One of the cultural and educational initiatives of the university is to popularize the cultural heritage of the great Kazakh thinker Abay Kunanbayev. Abai KazNPU initiated the opening of 6 international educational centers named after Abaiv in a number of countries: at the Pomeranian Academy in Słupsk, (Poland); The Abay Center at Ili Pedagogical University (PRC); Center of Culture and Science named after Abai in Ho Chi Minh City Pedagogical University (Vietnam); The Abay Center of the Kazakh Language and Culture at the University of Erzincan (Turkey). The Abai Center of Culture and Science at the Hanoi National Pedagogical University (Vietnam); Abai Kazakh-Russian Center of Science and Culture at Moscow State Pedagogical University (Russia). Their mission is to popularize the heritage of Abay Kunanbayev, to conduct various seminars, exercises in regional studies, culture and history of Kazakhstan. The activity of the Abai centers contributes to the integration into the international scientific and educational space, the implementation of the image policy and the promotion of Abai KazNPU abroad.

Educational and scientific work of the students is organized in the 7 institutes: Pedagogy and Psychology, Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Philology and Multilingual Education, Arts, Culture and Sport, Natural Sciences and Geography, History and Law, Sorbonne-Kazakhstan.

A Faculty for Foreign Citizens and Pre-university Training (Foundation) has been established to organize pre-university education and to educate young people with a strong motivation to become teachers. Educational activities are currently conducted under 217 educational programs of higher and postgraduate education, including 95 bachelor`s programs; 79 master`s programs; and 43 doctoral programs.

Educational work at the university is carried out according to the «Mentoring System» instead of traditional supervision. The peculiarity of this system is the participation of the entire teaching staff and staff in educating students, which ensures 100% coverage of students. Each teacher and employee is a mentor to 5 students during the entire period of study. The result of the current mentoring system is that in the past five years no student has committed any crimes.

The university has a modern material and technical base. The educational process is conducted in 12 academic buildings with a total area of 55 thousand square meters: 24 computer classes, 15-language laboratories, 45-training and scientific laboratories, 44-workshops, 38- interactive audiences.

The university has a research library. Reading rooms are available in all academic buildings. The library has a collection of more than 1,700,000 copies of various works. These are textbooks, teaching aids, monographs, samples of fiction. The library also has a rich collection of world fiction and rare books of the 18th - early 20th centuries in foreign languages.

The University has modern facilities and infrastructure. Education is provided in 12 academic buildings with a total area of 55,000 m². There are 27 computer labs, 15 language laboratories, 45 teaching and research laboratories, 44 workshops, 38 interactive classrooms and three choreography halls. Sports and exercise rooms, a football pitch, running tracks of M.Auezov sports complex with a total area of 100 thousand m² are at the disposal of students. There is a medical unit to provide preventive and emergency medical care. On the balance of the university today are five comfortable hostels with a total area of more than 17 000 m².

The university has two assembly halls with the total area of 307 m² (in the academic building №5 with an area of 118.8 m² and in the academic building № 6 with an area of 188 m²), which have the necessary sound-reproducing equipment, multimedia equipment that allows conducting video-conferences and other events online.

A publishing house "Ulagat" which has modern polygraphic equipment is in operation at the university. There is also a museum with a rich and interesting exposition.
