The staff of the Department of International Relations of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute take an active part in scientific research. A research topic was registered in JSC NCSTE "Actual problems of foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the context of globalization." Also, a department theme was approved together with French colleagues: "Monitoring the prevention of conflict situations in Central Asia." This topic responds to the current political challenges in the Central Asian region. French colleagues represented by the vice-president of the Sorbonne University, Mr. Julien Verkeya, showed great interest in the development of this topic. This joint Kazakh-French project has great prospects in its development. In the future, professors from leading universities in France will join this project.

Research work at the department is carried out on two main topics:

1. "Kazakhstan in the system of international relations"

2. "Foreign policy of Kazakhstan at the present stage."

On the basis of the Department of International Relations with the participation of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, there is a "club of diplomats", which is designed to establish contacts between the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. An online meeting of the club of diplomats was held with the participation of the teaching staff of the ISK and the leadership of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty. The Honorary Chairman of the Diplomatic Club is the Honored Worker of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan Isagaliev K.I., the Deputy Chairmen are Nurmaganbetov M.A., the Deputy Head of the Association of Kazakhstani diplomats, the Honored Worker of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the head of the Department of International Relations Zhamansarin N.Sh.

The department publishes a quarterly scientific journal Vestnik Series "International Affairs and Politics", the editor-in-chief is Zhamansarin Nurlan Shukatovich - candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, specialist in international relations, where foreign, Kazakhstani teachers, as well as students, undergraduates, doctoral students of the specialty "International relations "with scientific leaders, teaching staff of the department.
