Distance education opens up new possibilities

Teachers of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Institute of Philology and Multilingual Education are actively involved in the work of distance learning students. The professor, head of the department Saule Abisheva, professor Damina Shaibakova, candidate of philological sciences Gulnur Bayshukurova, PhD doctor Alla Dzhundubaeva and our other colleagues had a lot of groundwork that they can share.

Mehirnisa Khavaidarova, candidate of philological sciences, reflects on the features and advantages of distance work with students.

Distance learning burst into our lives unexpectedly, and at first it seemed that we had lost a lot, having lost direct live communication. But, as they say, everything has its advantages. And now, after a two-week period of «trial and error», we all - students and teachers gradually began to feel more confident in the online learning environment. Every day brings new discoveries, opens up new opportunities.

Today we use several resources for training. It turned out that the most accessible for students is the Whats-app-messenger. It has the ability to audio-read the text, receive Web-links to educational sites, students send documents here in office programs and can read any file format. We also use the video chat feature.

The next resource that we are already constantly using is the ZOOM platform, which expands the number of conference participants, gives the opportunity to chat, screen demos. The only drawback is the frequent technical problems with sound and picture.

A convenient tool for working in a remote format is the Univer platform, which allows students to use the downloaded materials and submit completed assignments without reference to time.

In connection with the transition to the remote format, it became necessary to access various educational contents. From domestic, students and I discovered an interesting and informative platform bilimland.kz, on which there are a lot of instructional videos in various disciplines. However, there is no feedback for students, because the main audience of the site is the school teams of teachers and students, and therefore we use the site as a resource. If universities had created the technical ability to work on this site, we would have contributed to the development of online education on the domestic Internet.

In general, we have been working in a new mode for ourselves not so long ago, but there are many interesting ideas, and we hope that by the time our forced isolation ends, we can confidently combine different information technologies in order to make the learning process interesting and informative.
