The research work of the department`s teaching staff is carried out in the most relevant areas of modern historical science: the Alash movement , the history of political repressions of the 1920s-1950s, everyday history, oral history, visual anthropology, the life and work of state and public figures of Kazakhstan, digital history, etc.

The department conducts scientific research on the implementation of scientific projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Project of the PCF " Alash case of 1920-1930. Documents and materials of the investigative case fabricated by the OGPU" (2021-2023). Project manager: academician, doctor of historical sciences, prof. researcher Koigeldiev M.K.

IRN project AP08857194 "Visual anthropology and history of images of Kazakhstani culture of the 19th - early 21st centuries: evolution and acquisition of subjectivity ". Project manager : PhD in history , associate professor, university professor T.T. Dalaeva (2022-2024)

Senior lecturer of the department Asymova D.B. is implementing the project "Retrospective of family history of the 20th-21st centuries: the visual nature of traditions and modernism in Kazakhstan" within the framework of the program " Zhas Galym " for 2023-2024 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Teachers and doctoral students of the department Zhanguttin B.O. Ermukanov E.N. Nurman Sh.T. Tulbasieva S.K. Saurykova Zh. Asanova D. took part in the city commission on the rehabilitation of victims of political repression under the Akimat of the city of Almaty.

The scientific interests of the PPS are implemented within the framework of research projects, the Scientific Center " Aitylgan " tarikh ", in the research topics of the department`s teaching staff, in master`s and doctoral dissertations and students` diploma theses.

Virtual laboratory in historical research .

The virtual laboratory for social and humanitarian disciplines is an online resource, an information system where sources and research in the subject area are systematized. Virtual laboratory of visual anthropology at the Faculty of History and Law of KazNPU named after Abai: these are opportunities for organizing scientific research and educational activities of students and cooperation with researchers.

Partnerships and international cooperation

Dr. Kirill Feferman, professor at Ariel University in Israel, a renowned expert in Europe and the United States specializing in memory studies, the history of the Holocaust and World War II, delivered a course of lectures for master`s and doctoral students at the Institute of History and Law of the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University from September 19 to October 17, 2023 .

Senior Lecturer Belous S.G. took part in an online meeting of members of the Presidium of the Council of Young Teachers of the CIS under the Eurasian Association of Pedagogical Universities on September 28, 2023, where the results of the year`s work and prospects were discussed.
