The history of the specialty is formed in 2001 on the basis of psychological and pedagogical faculty. In 2001, the Department of «Pedagogy of primary school» opened as a specialty 031240 - «Initial military training and physical education». In 2004, in accordance with the rules on «Higher professional education», a bachelor`s degree in 05010400 - «Basic military training» was opened. In 2010, after successful completion of certification specialty 5B010400 awarded the academic degree of bachelor of education.

In this regard, in 2007-2008 academic year was opened the Department of «Theory and methods of physical culture and basic military training». The decision of the University Council in 2009 opened the faculty of «PCS and IMT» and the department began its work in the faculty.

Since 2013, the Department became part of the Institute of arts, culture and sports and continued training of teaching staff in accordance with the state standard. Currently the Department is headed by «Honored worker of Kazakhstan», candidate of medical Sciences, Professor, reserve major of the medical service of Sailaubek Taukeiuly.

In order to strengthen the educational competence of graduates and the implementation of the order of the Minister of education of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 248 of April 28, 2015. About modification and additions in the orders of the Minister of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan from June 21, 2010 № 316 «On approval of the correspondence Table of the Classifier of specialties of higher and postgraduate education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Classifier of professions and specialties of technical and vocational, post-secondary education» on this basis, the Department was renamed the «Theories and methods of basic military training» in the Department of «Basic military training».

The number of teaching staff of the Department includes-10 teachers: 1 doctor of Sciences, professors; 2-candidate of science, associate professors; 2-candidate of Sciences, senior teachers; 5-master of senior teachers.

Overall, the percentage of academic qualification teaching staff-50%.

The total number of students - 134.

Full-time -130, 20 students on the grant, Part - time- 4, 1 of them - on the grant.
