Faculty of History and Law "Department of the history of Modern and Contemporary History of Kazakhstan named after Academician Sadykov begins with the period of construction of the university wall. Until now, the name of the department has been changed to "History of the Motherland", "History of Kazakhstan named after Academician T.S. Sadykov". From February 1, 2024, in order to more deeply research and study the periods of the history of Kazakhstan, the direction of the department was divided into 2 and reorganized with a new name. The staff of the department contribute to the development of domestic science, exploring current issues in the history and culture of Kazakhstan.

Since March 2024, the department has been headed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Muratkazin Mukhtar Muratkaz vuly. At the moment, the department employs Ph.D., professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.K. Educational programs of the department
The Department of "Modern and Contemporary History of Kazakhstan named after Academician T.S. Sadykov" implements the following educational programs of bachelor`s, master`s and doctoral degrees in the training of teaching staff in accordance with the needs of society: "6B01610 - History and Social Science"; "6B01601 - History"; " 6B01604- I hist- about the principles of law"; "7M01605 - History: social history of the new and contemporary Kazakhstan"; "8D01601 - History", "8D01605 - New social history of Kazakhstan".

Department activities
The research work of the faculty of the department is carried out in the most relevant areas of modern science: the Alash movement, the history of everyday life, oral history, the history of political repressions of the 1920-50s, conceptual problems of history in the Stalin era, historical demography, the life of state and public figures of Kazakhstan and service, etc. The teaching staff of the department regularly participates in scientific and methodological seminars and trainings for foreign and Middle Eastern specialists in order to improve their professional qualifications and uses innovative technologies in the education system in the teaching process.

The international relations of the department are extensive and stable. The department cooperates with Hokkaido University (Japan), Hanshan Normal University (China), Tabatai University (Iran), Budapest, Pecs Universities (Hungary), M. It works in international relations with Lomonosov Moscow State University, Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ural Branch of the Institute of History and Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Aga Khan University of Central Asia (Naryn), Islamic University of Russia and Novosibirsk Pedagogical University.

In addition, the department is a branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Kazakh-Turkish International University named after A. Yassawi, the Kazakh National Women`s Pedagogical University named after M.I. Aktobe State University named after Zhubanov, Suleyman Dimerel University, the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh. Ualikhanov, the Central State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the State Museum named after A. Kasteyev and others. It has established close ties with research institutes.

The department`s teachers actively participate in international conferences, symposia and colloquiums. In recent years, they have given lectures and reports in the USA, Great Britain, Finland, Holland, Poland and Russia. The department`s international activities are aimed at enhancing the university`s reputation and entering the international space of education and science.
