Short-Term Research Internship at the University of Granada, Spain

From October 5 to 19, 2025, Adlet Kariyev, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Postdoctoral Researcher at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, completed a short-term research internship at the University of Granada (Spain) under the international project “A Study of the Influence of Emotional and Motivational Factors on the Acquisition of Language Competencies by Future Primary School Teachers Using Artificial Neural Networks” (Order No. 05-04/250 dated April 3, 2025). During the internship, Adlet Kariyev worked at the Research Center for Information and Communication Technologies (CITIC-UGR). In working meetings with Professor Javier Medina Quero and Associate Professor Aurora Polo Rodríguez from the Department of Computer Science, Automation, and Robotics, methodological approaches to integrating neural network models into pedagogical practice were discussed, a comparative analysis of data from Kazakhstani and Spanish samples was conducted, and an exchange of scholarly publications on the application of artificial intelligence in education took place. The researcher explored the resources of the university library, with particular attention to specialized databases in psycholinguistics, neuroeducation, and multimodal analysis of learning activity. The internship involved intensive data work: results of a joint publication were discussed, including the absence of cross-cultural differences (Kazakhstan: n=57, Spain: n=54), gender differences (in Kazakhstan: males — “social utility,” females — “emotion regulation”; in Spain: females — “life sustenance,” p ≤ .050), and positive correlations between educational-cognitive, comfort, and communicative motives. The final manuscript was prepared and submitted to the Journal of Education Culture and Society (Q1, Scopus). The internship marked an important milestone in the implementation of the international project, strengthened research collaboration between Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University and the University of Granada, facilitated the adoption of advanced neural network analysis methods in pedagogy, and laid the foundation for preparing joint grant applications under the HORIZON Europe and Erasmus+ programs.
