International Scientific and Practical Conference "80 Years of the Great Victory: From Heroism to Independence" Held


On April 29, 2025, the Department of Modern and Contemporary History of Kazakhstan named after Academician T.S. Sadykov at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University organized an international scientific and practical conference titled "80 Years of the Great Victory: From Heroism to Independence." The event was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 110th anniversary of the Hero of the Soviet Union, prominent scholar, and educator Malik Gabdullin.


The main goal of the conference was to thoroughly explore the significance of the Great Victory in the national history, instill patriotic and heroic values in the younger generation, and promote the exchange of historical, cultural, and academic experiences.


The large-scale event brought together historians, military experts, public figures, representatives of research institutions, and university faculty members from Kazakhstan, Russia, and other countries.


The plenary session was opened by Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Ertay Sultan, who emphasized the importance of the conference. Keynote speeches were delivered by National Hero of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Bakytzhan Ertaev; Professor Andrey Speransky of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Academician Khankeldi Abzhanov of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan; as well as the descendants of Heroes of the Soviet Union - Aliya Koshkarbayeva, daughter of Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev, and Madina Gabdullina, daughter of Malik Gabdullin. They presented valuable insights and shared previously unknown archival materials.


The conference covered the following thematic sections: The Contribution of Kazakhstani Citizens to the Great Victory; Heroes and Personalities of the Great Victory; M. Gabdullin: Legacy of Heroism and Tradition; Unity and Harmony as the Pillars of Independence; Education, Science, and Technology - Keys to the Future; and The World and Kazakhstan.


During the sectional meetings, participants presented research findings based on archival sources and modern research methodologies. According to the organizers, the conference served as a significant academic platform for reviving historical memory, strengthening patriotic spirit, and ensuring continuity between generations.
