THE RIGHT CHOICE LEADS TO A BRIGHT FUTURE
Today, as part of the “Law and Order” program, Abai University hosted a preventive seminar titled “The Right Choice Is the Key to a Bright Future.” The Head of the Psychological Laboratory of the Republican Scientific Center for Mental Health, Zhuldizai Aliyeva, and lawyer, associate professor Gulaina Osmanova, analyzed the risks associated with gambling. Students were informed about the psychological, social, and financial dangers of gambling addiction, which has become a growing concern in modern society.
The “Law and Order” program, initiated by the Head of State, aims to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for every citizen of the country. Enhancing youth legal literacy, adherence to legal norms, and understanding public safety and responsibility are especially important. Preventing mistakes caused by a lack of understanding of the harm and risks of gambling addiction is a shared responsibility. Clinical psychologist Zhuldizai Aliyeva emphasized the importance of preventive measures in addressing this issue.
“Prevention of gambling addiction is extremely important. Pathological dependence on gambling often develops covertly and becomes noticeable only when the consequences are evident. Gambling is highly accessible, which accelerates the development of Therefore addiction. Even occasional participation can gradually lead to dependency, preventive measures inform the public about the risks and help develop self-regulation skills,” said Zhuldizai Muratbekkyzy.
Law expert Gulaina Osmanova delivered a presentation on the legal consequences of gambling addiction, as well as mechanisms to protect young people from financial and legal risks. She explained the signs of illegal gambling businesses in Kazakhstan, the responsibility for participating in them, and ways individuals can protect their rights. The speakers also highlighted that combating this social issue is a complex process.
“Treating gambling addiction requires the involvement of several specialists and does not yield immediate results. In some cases, medication may be necessary. Gambling addiction can disrupt sleep, reduce appetite, and increase irritability and emotional instability. In severe cases, individuals suffering from gambling addiction may even resort to self-harm. Therefore, it is essential to avoid this harmful habit and the illusion of easy money,” emphasized the clinical psychologist.
At the end of the seminar, students received answers to their questions and learned the importance of avoiding cheap online advertisements and money-prize games promoted on social media.
